Prologue: The Big Show
In the Parting Gifts’ prologue, we meet the Gannon family in their darkest hour as they await the end of their father’s long battle with cancer. Monica Gannon reflects on her father’s life, pondering the importance and meaning of endings.
Chapter 7: Escape
Frustrated by the hospital system, Monica Gannon and her family plot ways to free their father from the hospital’s confining walls. Through the drawing of their increasingly ludicrous plans, they find the ultimate escape: shared laughter.
CHARACTERS
Here I am in beautiful North Carolina with my husband, two kids, and our dog, Angel.
I was raised in New Jersey along with my three sisters, all of whom became passionate and caring educators in the public school system.
All the love we have is thanks to the example our parents set. Love was consistently displayed in small endearing ways...a loving glance, a reassuring shoulder touch, a dedication to the beautification of home, a refreshing glass of milk poured over ice just the way he likes it.

The resourceful Doctor, who doles out mildly humorous jokes in an attempt to help all decompress.
“Sneakers” the nurse who throws bedside manner out the window and lives life on her own terms.
